99% Furfural is a colorless and transparent oily liquid produced by hydrolysis and dehydration of pentosan in plant fiber raw materials, also known as furfuraldehyde. Furfural will oxidize in the air and eventually turn dark brown, and it is also easy to polymerize into resin. Furfural is partially soluble in water, and also soluble in ethanol, ether, acetic acid and other solvents. Furfural has a great ability to dissolve aromatic hydrocarbons, olefins, polar substances and some polymer compounds, but has a small ability to dissolve saturated substances such as aliphatic hydrocarbons and higher fatty acids. It should be protected from light, deoxidized and sealed during storage. Furfural can generate a variety of derivatives through oxidation, hydrogenation, nitration, oxidation, decarbonylation, condensation and other reactions. The reaction of furfural with aniline glacial acetic acid solution is bright red, and the latter is often used as a qualitative reagent for furfural. Furfural is very similar to benzaldehyde in nature and can undergo benzoin reaction, Perkin reaction and Cannizzaro reaction.

Application

(1) Chemical Solvent Furfural can well dissolve aromatic hydrocarbons and olefins. Therefore, it is widely used in refining lubricating oil, improving diesel oil quality, refining animal and vegetable oils, and making resins and waxes.
(2) 2-Furaldehyde can also be used as raw material for production and reprocessing, such as production of furfural resin and production of furfural hydrogenation products.
(3) Furfural is also widely used in medicine, antiseptic, bactericide, rust remover and cosmetics industries.
(4) It is used as raw material for organic synthesis, as well as synthetic resin, varnish, pesticide, medicine, rubber and paint.
(5) It is mainly used to prepare Furfuryl Alcohol, furoic acid, tetrahydrofuran γ- Industrial solvent of pentolactone, pyrrole, tetrahydropyrrole, etc. and used as analytical reagent.
(6) Furfural is a very important organic chemical intermediate, which can be used to prepare pentanediol, acetylpropanol, pentadiene, ketones, methyl tetrahydrofuran, etc.
